Job Summary:
The Geoscience and Planning, Geography, and Environmental Studies Departments in the Faculty of Science at the University of the Fraser Valley invite applications for a one-year limited-term faculty appointment.
The successful applicant will teach a total of seven (7) course sections for the academic year, distributed between fall, winter and/or summer semesters. Courses taught will likely be drawn from GEOG 103: The Physical Environment, GEOG 105: Natural Hazards and Hollywood, GEOG 130: Geography of Canada, GEOG/CMNS 257: Environment: Science and Communications, GEOG 303: Environmental Hydrology and/or GEOG 307: Climates of Cities. In addition to expertise in the courses listed above, the Departments are seeking a collegial and energetic individual with exceptional communication skills, demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level, and capacity to develop experiential and applied research opportunities for students. Incorporating Indigenous perspectives in the curriculum is essential, as is teaching international students and managing the needs of a diverse learning environment.
Most courses incorporate classroom activities (e.g., lectures, discussions, and tutorials) on the Abbotsford campus. For online instruction, UFV uses Blackboard as its learning platform along with Zoom and other applications. The primary role of this position is to teach, but the successful applicant is also expected to contribute service to the school and support student research. Directed studies courses (i.e., GEOG 483 and GEOG 484) enable students to work closely with faculty on research projects. The Fraser Valley is a fast-growing multicultural region with a strong agricultural economy and abundant natural resources. As such, it provides ample opportunity for student projects that engage local communities and resources.

Qualifications:
The successful applicant will have at least a master's degree, PhD preferred, in geography or a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution along with a recent record of excellence in teaching.
