Job Summary:

The University of the Fraser Valley invites applications for a limited term faculty member in its Teacher Education Department (TED). Our graduates are distinguished in the teaching profession because of their strong ability to integrate educational theory and knowledge into a reflective teaching practice that is critically minded, pedagogically sensitive, and socially just. The position is subject to budgetary approval.

This is a position for an educator who enjoys the challenge of working in an innovative program, and whose philosophy about teacher education is consistent with TED’s Mission Statement, Department Values, and the Program Goals for both the MEd and the BEd. This individual will also share the TED faculty’s commitments to social justice and anti-racism, and to decolonizing and Indigenizing practices. As such, the successful candidate would have knowledge of the five TED values and commitments and will embed them into their curriculum design and delivery. The elementary/middle and secondary program structures can be found at ufv.ca/teachereducation. It is anticipated that the successful applicants will be able to teach elementary and secondary level courses across a number of specific subject areas.

The successful applicant will be expected to teach courses in the BEd on the Mission campus, work collaboratively with a variety of faculty and seconded faculty mentors, and be part of the TED admissions and orientation processes. There are also additional expectations involving service to the university and the local community. A key responsibility of faculty in the TED is to ensure that teacher candidates who successfully complete the UFV Bachelor of Education meet all program goals, demonstrate the TED values, and are fully aware of their obligations to adhere to the British Columbia Teachers’ Council (BCTC) Standards.

We are looking for one LTA instructor who can teach the following courses:

  • EDUC 422 (Designs for teaching elementary fine arts)
  • EDUC 421 (Designs for teaching elementary social studies)
  • EDUC 445 (Planning and assessment)
  • EDUC 452 (Unit planning, evaluation, and reporting)
  • EDUC 460 (Governance and social reform)
  • EDUC 440 (Professional communication)
  • EDUC 449 (Creating Positive Environments for Learning in Secondary Classrooms)

Qualifications:

  • MEd or MA (PhD preferred) and significant education-related life experience.
  • K – 12 teaching certificate with classroom experience (preferably in the public school system).
  • Knowledge of the BC school system (preferably in local school districts).
  • Evidence of instruction in teacher education in the specialty areas listed above.
  • Evidence of experience in mentorship, both of teacher candidates and in-service teachers.

Applicants should submit the below documents through the HR Careers portal:

  • Cover letter.
  • Curriculum vitae including evidence of appropriate qualifications.
  • Two letters of reference.
