Job Summary

About the Department

The Department of Adult Education is one of the few institutions to offer a BA in Adult Education in Canada, as well as a TESL certificate, a graduate certificate in Mindfulness Based Teaching and Learning, and other certificates and credentials such as a Workplace Education certificate, Instructional Leaning Design certificate, and an Adult Education minor for non-ADED students at UFV. Our program is delivered in a blended format using Blackboard for online components and video conferencing technology to connect distance learners to F2F classes. Our F2F classes - usually 25% of a course - are offered week-ends and evenings.

Position Details

The Department of Adult Education is seeking a temporary sessional instructor to teach one section of a third-year adult education course called ADED 365: Adult Education in Canada: Indigenous Peoples in the Fall semester in 2021. In offering this course, we aim to honour the history and ongoing contributions of Indigenous peoples to adult education in Canada. There is also the opportunity to continue teaching this course in subsequent years. Qualifications

The Department of Adult Education is looking for a sessional instructor with excellent teaching skills in the field of adult education or professional development. Candidates are required to have completed or to have nearly completed a doctoral degree (PhD/EdD) in Adult Education or a related field from a recognized/accredited post-secondary institution. Candidates with a Master degree that come with considerable expertise in Indigenous Adult Education are also welcome to apply. The committee values Indigenous culture, expertise, experience, and knowledge systems and so welcomes candidates with publications, presentations and teaching experiences that are community- and/or culturally-centered.

The ideal applicant will be able to make connections between Indigenous knowledge systems and contemporary curricula in their field and Indigenous curricula. They will be aware of or able to recognize how local Indigenous knowledge is being practiced and promoted and will be able to see ways they and their work can contribute to that body of work. Also, the ideal candidate will be well aware of the unique challenges of Indigenous student experiences. Additionally, the candidate will have a demonstrated collegial approach to Indigenization and Reconciliation. The candidate should be comfortable teaching with new learning technologies as the online/blended format can be stressful and demanding for someone unaccustomed to the format.
